A 23-year-old man died Monday in a snowmachine accident near Galena, Alaska State Troopers said.
The accident occurred overnight Sunday approximately seven to nine miles down the Yukon River from Galena, a village of about 760 people.
Galena police were notified at about 1:40 a.m. Monday and sent rescuers to the scene. The rescuers transported the man to the Galena clinic, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.
The man's name was withheld until his family could be notified.
Troopers said they are investigating.
